Cylinders and Jars

Engineered to meet exacting specifications, PYREX® brand 7740 glass cylinders and jars provide good thermal endurance, resistance to thermal shock, excellent mechanical strength, and high chemical resistance. Corning offers a variety of bell jars for vacuum service, flat and round bottom jars, and cylinders for many industrial and scientific applications.

PYREX® Cylinders

PYREX brand cylinders are custom made from mold-blown blanks, or can be fabricated from a bell or flat bottom jar.

PYREX® Bell Jars and Flat Bottom Jars

Bell jars are specially-blown sturdy round bottom jars that have a fine ground finish at the open end. The jars are supplied without a rim flange. The flat ground bearing surface has a contact area equal to the wall thickness at the open end of the jar.

Flat Bottom jars are mold-blown with substantial walls for mechanical strength. The open end is ground flat and square.

MACBETH® Gage Glasses

Used as original glass in new gage assemblies as well as replacement glass in both steam and process applications, the MACBETH Brand Gage Glasses are considered by many to be the "Standard of the Industry."

These glasses are designed for use in armored-type liquid level gages. They are manufactured of borosilicate glass under carefully controlled conditions to provide a high-strength tempered glass with the greatest degree of visibility.

The three basic gage glass types:

Type A, Plain, is designed for moderate pressure steam boilers and for liquid level indicators.

Type A, High Pressure,will take non-steam pressure up to 5000 psi

Type B, Reflex, is made for extra ease in locating liquid levels. This gage glass has vertical prisms extending the full viewing length of the glass. The prism side faces the liquid reflect light brilliantly. Thus the liquid level stands out very clearly from a great distance away.

Specialty Flat Glasses

PYREX® Flat Glasses

High-temperature windows for viewing ports, and components for the applianace industry are fabricated from Corning's PYREX Code 7740 flat borosilicate sheet glass.

Of all Corning's flat glass products, VYCOR Code 7913 is most resistant to continuous heat, chemical attack and thermal shock. This glass is used for heat-stressed windows and firing plates.

Furnace Observation Blue Glass

Corning's blue borosilicate glass Code 5331 is used for reducing glare when observing flame, smoke and ash intensity in power plants and marine boilers.

PYREX® Sight Glasses

Corning's PYREX Code 7740 sight glasses are essential in many chemical and industrial processes for observation of high temperature and high pressure operations.

VYCOR® Sight Glasses

Corning's VYCOR Code 7913 sight glasses are used in many high temperature chemical and industrial processes.

Tubing and Rod

PYREX® Tubing and Rod

PYREX brand 7740 glass tubing and rod is the preferred borosilicate glass for a variety of industrial, scientific and architectural applications. From fuel filter tubes and oil cups to ozonator tubes, from sealing glass to spacer rings,and lighting sheaths to glass walls and tunnels.

VYCOR® Tubing and Rod

Many industrial components use Code 7913 glass tubing and rod for high-temperature applications.

Tube components include gas samplers and sheaths for thermocouples, electrical immersion heaters, space heaters, defroster tubes and toaster oven heaters. VYCOR brand glass rods provide low thermal expansion and abrasion resistance for uses such as thermostat reference bars.
